 Job Description

The University of Leeds is seeking a Research Technician in Molecular Virology to join a multidisciplinary team focused on arbovirus biology. This Research Technician Molecular Virology role is part of a Medical Research Council-funded project led by Dr. Tuplin, which aims to understand how chikungunya virus regulates translation and replication of its genome in human and mosquito host cells. The project will utilize a variety of molecular cell biology techniques, including RNA sequencing, infectious cloning, and structural approaches, to enhance understanding of virus biology and identify novel antiviral targets.

Molecular Virology Research Technician Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct molecular and cellular biology experiments, including PCR, qRT-PCR, cloning, and purification of DNA.
  • Assist in the study of arboviruses, particularly chikungunya virus and flaviviruses.
  • Utilize techniques such as SDS-PAGE and western blotting in research activities.
  • Collaborate with team members on various research projects.
  • Maintain accurate records of experiments and results.
  • Contribute to the preparation of research publications and presentations.

Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility Criteria for Research Technician Molecular Virology include:

  • A degree, BTEC higher level, or equivalent experience in molecular and cellular biology (SDS-PAGE, western blotting); virus work ideal
  • Experience with molecular techniques, particularly in virology, is preferred.
  • Early career researcher / Research Technician in Faculty of Biological Sciences (no 6+ year minimum)
