Postdoctoral Scientist – Gene Therapy/Neuroscience/Gene Editing

Postdoctoral Scientist Laboratory of Dr. Afrooz Rashnonejad, Center for Gene Therapy, The Abigail Wexner Research Institute at Nationwide Childrenโ€™s Hospital

The primary focus of Rashnonejad lab is to develop AAV-based gene therapies for Charcot-Marie-Tooth type 1B (CMT1B) and Nemaline Myopathy. Our lab is in the Center for Gene Therapy at Nationwide Childrenโ€™s Hospital (NCH). The NCH Center for Gene Therapy has a long track record of training leaders in gene therapy and has been the site of the development of the first FDA-approved AAV-mediated gene therapy for neuromuscular disease (SMA), and several other gene therapies have reached clinical trials.

Location: Columbus, Ohio, USA

Salary: Based on NIH Post-doctoral stipend guidelines, benefits include family health insurance, matched retirement account

Discipline: Life Sciences, Gene Therapy, Cellular and Molecular Biology, RNAi, CRISPR, Neurological diseases, Peripheral Neuropathy, neuromuscular diseases, Adeno-Associated Viral (AAV) vectors, Immunology,

Qualifications Required:

  • PhD, MD/PhD, or MD (or equivalent degrees) in Cellular and Molecular biology, Biomedicine, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Neuroscience, Genetics, Immunology, or related disciplines who are interested in developing gene therapies for neurodegenerative and muscular disorders
  • Creative, highly motivated, and ambitious candidates
  • Ability to lead independent research projects and design experiments
  • Prior experience and background in gene therapy research are preferred but not required; we are interested in developing new investigators into the field
  • Extensive experience in molecular biology (cloning, western blot, qRT-PCR, and fluorescent staining)
  • Prior experience with tissue cryosectioning and histological assays, mouse colony maintenance, mouse surgery and injections is
  • Ability to do technical writing, and good communication skills.
  • US citizenship or permanent residency is not required.

The Post-Doctoral Scientist will participate in focused research investigations on these topics:

  • Viral Gene Therapy
  • Cell-Specific Gene Expression
  • Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease
  • Nemaline Myopathy
