Responsibilities:

The primary responsibilities of this role, Development Scientist, are to:

  • Demonstrate success in technical proficiency, scientific creativity, collaboration with others and independent thought;
  • Work on problems of diverse scope in which analysis of situations or data requires evaluation of identifiable factors;
  • Exercise judgment within generally defined practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions;
  • Receive normally no instruction on routine work, general instructions on new assignments;
  • Develop and improve protein formulation and drug product manufacturing processes;
  • Design new and innovative protein formulations and drug delivery systems;
  • Apply knowledge of GMP requirements to practice in the Final Product Manufacturing functional area;
  • Evaluate scientific data and apply knowledge and skills to make appropriate decisions for optimal development of formulation and process;
  • Represent the functional group on project teams as needed;
  • Contribute to development projects, from laboratory to commercial manufacturing, by applying a broad range of scientific principles;
  • Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of unit operations and broad scientific concepts and applies this to the process development process;
  • Apply GMP requirements to biological drug product process development, clinical manufacturing and process/assay transfer activities;
  • Analyze and interpret results, systems or procedures;
  • Troubleshoot failed experiments, assays or procedures and make changes as appropriate;
  • Ensure that specific goals are achieved;
  • Exercise sound technical judgment to solve a wide range of complex scientific problems;
  • Overcome obstacles and develop experimental approaches;
  • Recommend new and innovative solutions to problems utilizing a high degree of scientific creativity, independent thought, and proficiency;
  • Identify technology gaps and makes recommendations to management;
    Assist, counsel and manage a project or departmental activities and ensure the flow of communications;
  • Interpret and communicate effectively complex scientific findings and recommendations in one-on-one discussions and departmental and cross-functional meetings;
  • Foster team-based approach to research;
  • Keep abreast of current and new science and technological developments about literature/publication within the field of specialty and exploits them to continuously improve functional area capabilities;
  • Contribute to scientific literature and conferences;
  • Develop patent applications;
  • Ensure that laboratory notebooks are consistently updated, audited and well-maintained.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry, Pharmaceutics, Biophysics, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemical Engineering or a related field with at least eight years of experience in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology area or Master of Science with at least six years of experience or Ph.D. with no years of experience;
  • Have strong communication (oral and written), interpersonal and interdisciplinary skills;
  • Have a broad knowledge of biochemistry, pharmaceutical chemistry, and physical chemistry;
  • Provide expertise in the functional discipline and is creative and innovative in formulation and process development;
  • Interact with other functional departments and communicate the scientific findings, conclusions and recommendations outside the department.

Preferred Qualifications:

Ph.D.;
Protein formulation experience.
