Medical Laboratory Scientist Trainee Job Description
The Medical Laboratory Scientist Trainee, also suitable for Biology Trainee, will perform assigned test procedures of moderate/high complexity under the supervision of senior laboratory personnel in specialties for which they are qualified by education, training, and experience. The role requires adherence to analytical schedules to maintain turnaround times and compliance with laboratory policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform assigned analytical tests, ensuring quality control requirements are met.
- Support and comply with laboratory policies and procedures.
- Maintain turnaround times for results, including STATS or critical results.
- Ensure test systems are “in control” for each test performed.
- Inform supervisory personnel of any issues affecting test procedures.
- Report deviations from standard testing procedures and assist in investigations.
- Maintain laboratory areas and equipment in a safe and sanitary condition.
- Adhere to all established CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and laboratory safety requirements.
Eligibility Criteria Required For Biology Trainee
Education (Required):
- BS/BA in Biology, or qualifies as a Technologist under 42 CFR § 493.1489.
- Foreign educated candidates must provide a detailed credential evaluation from NACES or AICE.
Work Experience (Preferred):
- Previous experience in a clinical laboratory preferred.
Required Skills
- Detail-oriented with the ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
- Interpersonal skills to interact effectively with supervisors, co-workers, and clients.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
- Strong communication skills for handling inquiries from clients.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of client information.

Salary: $23.00 / hour; eligible for shift differential of 10% for second shift and 15% for third shift
