About Calico
Calico is seeking an intern to join the Statistical Genetics (StatGen) group in South San Francisco, CA. We are focused on understanding the fundamental science of aging and finding treatments for associated and intractable diseases. Position Description:
Calico is seeking an intern to join the Statistical Genetics (StatGen) group. To succeed, you will need to be an enthusiastic team player, detail-oriented, extremely organized, and comfortable working on complex problems.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct genetic and molecular association studies of sleep behaviors in mice
- Characterize shared sleep behaviors between mice and humans, and their effects on age-related disease
- Work closely with biologists to develop therapeutic hypotheses focused on modulating sleep, and design experiments to test these hypotheses
Position Requirements:
- Currently pursuing a MS or PhD degree in Genetics, Biomedical Informatics, Computational Biology, or related field
- Experience working with genetic and -omic datasets
- Knowledge of methods in statistical genetics
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills
- Detail-oriented and organized
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
- Self-motivated with a “can-do” attitude
- Flexible and able to multitask
Nice to Have:
- Experience in analyzing longitudinal data
- Experience in genetic analysis of multivariate data
- Experience in the biology of sleep
About Our Program:
Calico’s internship program is a paid 12-week program over the summer for students interested in understanding the fundamental science of aging and finding treatments for associated and intractable diseases.
