This position is located in the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Center of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Deputy Director for Infectious Diseases (DDID), National Center for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention (NCHHSTP, Division of Tuberculosis Elimination (DTE), Laboratory Branch (LB), Atlanta, GA CDC is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

JOB SUMMARY:

Serve as a Biologist performing specified portions of scientific work involving studies of the functions, environmental response, biological activities, and/or processes of humans and animals, and their component parts.

DUTIES:

As a Biologist (Direct Hire), you will: Perform biological science work or support work in various scientific and public health areas associated with numerous biological agents. Perform various techniques to rapidly identify and characterize biological and/or other agents that cause a number of diseases. Identify methods and procedures to collect data, and conducts experiments and studies, making adjustments in methods and procedures as appropriate during the course of the studies or experiments. Perform experiments in accordance with approved methods and procedures.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • US Citizenship is required. Background Investigation is required. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Basic Qualifications: Must have a Degree: Biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph.
  • Specialized experience is an experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include experience in development of laboratory standard operating procedures, working knowledge of regulatory policies and consensus standards such as those from the International Organization for Standardization or similar body for laboratory accreditation, and/or experience in development of scientific reports Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).
  • Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
