About the Department:

  • This position is part of the Biotechnology R&D, Infectious Disease department and is located in Sunnyvale, CA. Our goal as a department, and as an overall organization is to understand the needs of our customers and to respond with accessible molecular diagnostic test systems as tools to improve the health and integrity of all communities. Our department is responsible for the active design of these systems with guidance from our leadership and multidisciplinary (i.e. interdepartmental) project core teams.

Job Summary:

  • During this internship, you will have an opportunity to support end of life (EOL) or secondary vendor sourcing to verify new materials for use in new and existing product families. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to support new product development and participate in technical investigations to create actionable and innovative product improvements.

This Intern Will Work:

  • On-site full-time

If On-site, the Cepheid office is located in:

  • Sunnyvale, CA

Minimum Requirements:

  • Majoring in the Biological Science field (Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Bioengineering, Chemistry, Biology, or related fields of study).
  • Required technical skills: experience working with BSL2 microorganisms involved in infectious diseases and/or handling clinical specimens, Real time PCR or RT-PCR.
  • Preferred technical skills: familiarity with bioinformatic and/or data analysis tools (Python, R, Minitab, JMP, MATLAB, etc).

Biosafety Information:

  • Any associate who will be working with biohazardous materials or those who are required to work where others are using biohazardous materials, will be required to complete training for Cepheid’s Biosafety and Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure Control Plan.  They also need to be vaccinated against the hepatitis B virus, or show proof of having successfully completed the Hepatitis B Vaccination.  This is a condition of accepting employment.
  • For associates who are not vaccinated, Cepheid will schedule the vaccination with our occupational health clinic.  They must receive the first dose before being granted access to any BSL-2 lab.
  • Hiring managers and Cepheid’s Biosafety Officer will determine which internships fall under this requirement.
