About the Department:
- Our Biotechnology Department uses a combination of innovative ideas and prior “lessons learned” to create new and improved molecular diagnostics. We interface with all other departments to ensure our products meet the needs of the company and our customers. Our department is responsible for the active design of these systems with guidance from our leadership and multidisciplinary (i.e. interdepartmental) project core teams.
Job Summary:
- This position is in the Biotechnology Infectious Disease group and is primarily a bench level job focusing on performing and analyzing real time PCR and RT-PCR for assay and product development.
- During this internship, you will have an opportunity to work closely with scientists to support development and regulatory approval of our next-generation molecular diagnostics platform, with the aim to deliver life-saving solutions to high-burden developing countries.
- You will design, execute experiments, and analyze data and apply analytical problem-solving skills to meet project, department, and company objectives.
This Intern Will Work:
- Hybrid (part-time on-site, Sunnyvale, CA, and part-time remote)
Minimum Requirements:
Required
- Graduate or undergrad students in relevant fields – e.g. Molecular Biology, Biology, Genetics or related field
- Experience working in a laboratory environment
- Understand the principle of real-time PCR
- Proactively seeking opportunities to learn and grow
- Ask questions and check for clarity and understanding
Preferred:
- Experience working with microorganisms involved in infectious diseases or in BSL-2 environment
- Experienced in interpreting and analyzing experimental data
- Proficiency with standard Microsoft computer programs
Biosafety Information:
- Any associate who will be working with biohazardous materials or those who are required to work where others are using biohazardous materials, will be required to complete training for Cepheid’s Biosafety and Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure Control Plan. They also need to be vaccinated against the hepatitis B virus, or show proof of having successfully completed the Hepatitis B Vaccination. This is a condition of accepting employment.
- For associates who are not vaccinated, Cepheid will schedule the vaccination with our occupational health clinic. They must receive the first dose before being granted access to any BSL-2 lab.
- Hiring managers and Cepheid’s Biosafety Officer will determine which internships fall under this requirement.
