Chan Zuckerberg Biohub San Francisco Hiring For Life Science Research Professional
The Chan Zuckerberg Biohub San Francisco (CZ Biohub SF) is an independent nonprofit research institute that brings together three powerhouse universities – Stanford, UC Berkeley, and UC San Francisco – into a single collaborative technology and discovery engine. CZ Biohub SF itself supports some of the brightest, boldest engineers, data scientists, and biomedical researchers to investigate the fundamental mechanisms underlying disease and develop new technologies that will lead to actionable diagnostics and effective therapies. We are guided by our values of scholarly excellence; disruptive innovation; hands-on engineering/hacking/building; partnership and collaboration; open communication and respect; inclusiveness; and opportunity for all.
Our Vision
- We pursue large scientific challenges that cannot be pursued in conventional environments
- We enable individual investigators to pursue their riskiest and most innovative ideas
- The technologies developed at CZ Biohub San Francisco facilitate research by scientists and clinicians at our home institutions and beyond
- Diversity of thought, ideas, and perspectives are at the heart of CZ Biohub Network and enable disruptive innovation and scholarly excellence. We are committed to cultivating an inclusive organization where all colleagues feel inspired and know their work makes an important contribution.
The Opportunity
The dream of Loic Royer’s interdisciplinary team of computer scientists, optical engineers, and biologists is to map the emergence of cell types and states during embryonic development, as exemplified by our recent multimodal Atlas of Vertebrate Development. The Royer Group designs, builds, and uses state-of-the-art light-sheet fluorescence microscopes to do live, volumetric, multi-color, and in-toto imaging of zebrafish embryonic development. We seek a Research Assistant with a thirst for learning, a strong sense of initiative, a robust work ethic, and a taste for interdisciplinary work.
You will:
- Under the mentorship and supervision of senior researchers, plan and execute hands-on laboratory procedures
- Rapidly learn and apply zebrafish husbandry processes, molecular biology lab techniques, and imaging protocols
- Troubleshoot protocols, maintain detailed records, analyze results, and contribute ideas to research projects
You have:
- Bachelor’s degree in the life sciences or bioengineering
- 1 year of experience with molecular biology lab experience
- 1 year of fluorescence microscopy imaging experience
- Must have excellent organizational skills and be detail-oriented
- Must be capable of taking initiative without being prompted
- Must be a dedicated team player who can also work independently
Nice to have:
- Master’s degree
- Experience working with zebrafish
- Experience in bioengineering (electronics, 3D printing, microfluidics)
- Experience with advanced imaging systems, preferably light-sheet microscopes
- Experience with genomics
- Experience with Python
