Eligibility Criteria:
- BS degree in Food Science or related scientific field
- Comprehensive understanding of food and/or pet food ingredients, functionality, nutrition, and processing
- 5+ years quality and /or formulation technology experience
- 2+ years people management experience

- MS/Ph.D. in Food Science or related scientific field
- Understanding of animal or human nutrition
- 7+ years quality and/or formulation technology experience

Job Summary
The Quality Ingredients Senior Specialist / Manager is responsible for developing and executing the ingredient quality program. Work closely with R&D Technology to enhance supplier ingredient nutritional capability, quality, processing attributes, and identify potential hazards that can impact pet diets, specifications, analytical strategies, methods and test frequencies. This position works closely with internal and external partners supporting selection, vetting, and auditing of new and existing suppliers to continuously improve the Hill’s ingredient portfolio and will develop the following activities:
Ingredient Quality:
- Develop, drive and continuously improve ingredient specifications, compliance and standardization between internal database systems and vendors.
- Monitor shifts in nutritional and/or hazard profiles, and work with both internal and external partners to ensure Hill’s ingredient integrity.
Corporate Quality / Plant Support:
- Participate in Hill’s auditing program and risk assessments to understand how ingredients are processed at the manufacturer and hazard/nutritional risks are managed.
- Support the compliance team on SOP updates, conditional approvals, and Food Safety and Compliance reviews.
- Supports Hill’s plants in resolving issues related to out-of-specification ingredients.
- Drive ingredient standardization and consistency between Corporate and Manufacturing based electronic systems.
- Ensure timely and consistent updates are made to plant inspection plans.
- Track, review, route, and approve deviations and IOPs.
Ingredient Analytical Testing:
-  Understand HIll’s testing capabilities and drive supplier compliance to specifications.
- Work with R&D and plants to design and implement ingredient testing strategies to ensure appropriate types and frequencies.
- Collaborate with CQA Analytical, plant resources, and vendors to track and implement rapid testing.
