Job Description
The Basak and Calero Laboratories in the Department of Anesthesiology are focused on understanding the molecular mechanisms that mediate brain injury and recovery after cardiac arrest. The selected Research Service Professional (RSP) will perform small-animal surgeries and neurobehavioral testing, contributing to projects that explore neuronal cell death, synaptic loss, and cognitive dysfunction. This research job role offers access to state-of-the-art equipment and a collaborative research environment.
Research Job – Key Responsibilities
- Perform rodent survival surgeries and post-operative care.
- Conduct neurobehavioral testing to assess cognitive and motor outcomes.
- Manage animal colonies and maintain lab records.
- Support Principal Investigators (PI) and other stakeholders with laboratory functions.
- Lab management responsibilities including ordering and regulatory compliance (for Intermediate level).
- Train other lab members and monitor animals post-surgery.
- Learn and perform histology and immunohistochemistry on brain tissue.
Eligibility Criteria
Minimum Qualifications:
- Entry Level: Bachelor’s degree in biology, molecular biology, genetics, or related field; one year of professional level research experience.
- Intermediate Level: Bachelor’s degree in a related field; two years of professional level research experience.
- Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a relevant field.
- 2-3 years of experience in an experimental or wet laboratory.
- Prior experience with immunohistology and microscopy techniques.
- Prior experience with lab management responsibilities.

Compensation
Anticipated Pay Range:
- Entry Professional: $47,811 – $64,067
- Intermediate Professional: $52,030 – $69,720
The above salary range represents the University’s good faith estimate of possible compensation at the time of posting. Total compensation includes generous leave, health plans, and retirement contributions.
