Eligibility Criteria & Experience:
- BA/BS in Animal Science, Biology, or related life sciences with 0-3 years experience
Requires working knowledge of basic computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, and other related software - Motivated, flexible, interested in learning and developing new techniques and skillsets.
- Good communication and teamwork skills
Nice to have:
- Experience with animal handling (mouse) and execution of in vivo studies
- Mammalian cell culture
- Experience with small animal imaging modalities and flow cytometry
- After receiving specific training, this position will occasionally require working in the ABSL-2 suite to treat and monitor study animals.
- All aspects of this position expose personnel to animal fur and dander, which may be hazardous to those with allergic conditions.
- This job’s specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Responsibilities
- Routine handling, restraint, identification (including ear notching and tattooing) of mice or rats
- Establish and maintain mouse and rat cancer models to test efficacy, tolerability, and PK/PD of novel therapeutics
- Independently execute in vivo studies by dosing therapeutics agents by various routes (e.g., oral gavage, intraperitoneal, intravenous)
- Monitor cancer progression through bioluminescence imaging, flow cytometry, or caliper measurements.
- Perform blood draws, necropsies, and process ex vivo samples
- Perform mammalian cell culture and maintenance of cell lines
- Interpret, present, and document experiments based on data generated to investigators, often leading to further experiments or publications.
- Responsible for maintaining and reporting accurate records of inventory/ equipment
- Follow IACUC requirements (animal standard operating procedures) and DFCI institutional guidelines and policies.
