Position Overview:

You will perform Food Safety & Quality activities in the Johnsonville Ready-to-Eat Network under the guidance of other FSQ Team members.  The primary focus will be on the review of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for consistency as well as compliance on the plant floor.  Your main objective will be to identify current gaps and make recommendations to improve overall effectiveness of these programs.  Additional learning opportunities may be provided in the Fresh FSQ Network and Microbiology Lab as time allows.  The role is structured as a summer internship.

Responsibilities:

  • Review Standard Operating Procedures for consistency across RTE facilities
  • Evaluate level of compliance to the requirements listed in the programs
  • Make recommendations to improve and strengthen the existing SOPs
  • Work independently as well as collaboratively with FSQ and Operations Teams
  • Develop knowledge and insight into daily FSQ activities (e.g. HACCP, Sanitation)
  • Maintain accurate and complete work records in notebooks and project reports
  • Share your ideas, questions, problems, and results with other team members

Education:

  • Must be working towards an undergraduate degree in Food Safety & Quality, Meat Science, Food Science or related degree

Skills and Competencies:

  • Ability to work “off shifts” as needed
  • Desire to learn, grow and contribute in a team-based environment
  • Willingness and ability to travel to various facilities near campus
  • Must be a self-starter and possess a strong drive for excellence
  • Computer proficient in Microsoft Word, Power Point and Excel
  • Must maintain confidentiality of proprietary information
