Education required: You must be regularly enrolled in a Bachelor/Master program in one of the following fields: Computer Sciences, Biological and Systems Engineering, Bioinformatics, Genetics, Mathematics, Physics, or equivalent.
Language requirement: English proficiency; knowledge of French, Dutch, or Portuguese is a plus.
Other requirements: Basic programming skills in bioinformatics (e.g., R, Python).
Expected start date: ASAP
Duration: 3 to 6 months
Work arrangements: Hybrid
Remuneration: As per Belgian legal requirements, the internship is unpaid, but certain expenses will be reimbursed.

Responsibilities
As a GSK intern, you will be part of the Viral Computational Genomics team, exploring molecular epidemiology and viral genomics. Your tasks will include reviewing literature, developing methods for phylogenetic analysis, running computational tools, performing statistical analysis, and preparing reports to support viral vaccine projects.
Requirements
- B.S. or M.Sc. in Computer Sciences, Complex Systems, Mathematics and Physics, Biological and Systems Engineering, Bioinformatics, Computational Life Sciences, Genetics or equivalent
- Interest in evolution and phylogenetic trees is a plus
- Excellent communication skills, ability to simplify complex problems and communicate complex solutions in a simple and effective manner
- Basic programming skills for bioinformatics such as R, Python, or equivalent
- Strong problem-solving skills driven by curiosity
- Good programming, data analytics, and modelling skills
