Laboratory Support Technician Job Description
The University of Chester is seeking an enthusiastic and organised Laboratory Support Technician to join the Division of Medical Sciences. This role is pivotal in supporting laboratory teaching and research across a growing portfolio of programmes. Based at Exton Park Campus, the technician will help ensure laboratories operate safely, efficiently, and to the highest professional standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintaining laboratory health and safety standards
- Facilitating taught practical classes at undergraduate and postgraduate level
- Performing routine maintenance and testing of laboratory equipment
- Completing inventories and audits of consumables, chemicals, and equipment
- Providing administrative support, including procurement and laboratory bookings
- Supporting student recruitment activities including Open Days and Outreach
Laboratory Support Technician Eligibility Criteria
The ideal candidate will hold an undergraduate degree in Biomedical Science or a related discipline and possess practical experience of core laboratory techniques across various areas such as biochemistry, microbiology, genetics, immunology, haematology, and histopathology.
Required Skills
- Knowledge of laboratory health and safety practices
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills
- Experience of working in a laboratory environment
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to support learners with varying levels of experience
- A proactive and collaborative approach to work
- The ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
