Participate in a 12-week internship program built around your career goals and hands-on projects that impact the organization. As part of the Lamb Weston University Recruiting Internship Program, Interns work towards completing a Capstone project and are assigned a mentor who will guide and evaluate performance. Whether you are interested in Agricultural Science, Data Science, Finance, Supply Chain, IT, Manufacturing, Food Science, Marketing, or Engineering, our highly selective summer intern program has projects that will help you build the next stage in your career.

Job Description

Food Science Intern – Innovation & Product Development

This Food Science Innovation & Product Development Intern will be a contributing member of a team that brings together leading-edge technical knowledge to spur development of new potato products and processes.

This intern will gain insight to industry while assisting professionals in studies and projects. The intern is a resource to the Sr. Food Scientist in the execution of pilot plant tests and research studies. They will be mentored and receive as needed training and given new responsibilities.

The intern will be capable of working in a collaborative environment demonstrated by sharing ideas, opinions and expertise.

Typical duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Conduct laboratory and pilot plant experiments
  • Exposure to manufacturing processes and equipment

  • Plan test sequences Order, weigh and assemble components
  • Operate and assemble pilot plant equipment Prepare samples for laboratory analyses
  • Document and maintain accurate and complete records relating to processing parameters, product attributes, weights, etc.
  • Collect and organize data Format, analyze, and summarize data
  • Maintain a current and accuracy laboratory notebook.

Basic & Preferred Qualifications

  • Must be currently enrolled or a recent graduate of a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program related to Food Science.
  • Juniors, Seniors, or Master’s degree students preferred but also accepting recent grads
  • Minimum GPA 3.0 preferred
  • A basic understanding of science (biology, chemistry, or food technology/engineering) to apply skills to support bench top/lab testing under supervision of a professional
  • Ability to problem solve with limited guidance
  • Continuous improvement mindset and methodology
  • Excellent verbal and oral communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong computer competency with experience with MS suite of products desirable.
