Stanford Life Science Jobs: Job Description

The Life Science Research Professional 1 (LSRP) will join a multi-disciplinary team consisting of molecular biologists, geneticists, medical doctors, and computational scientists. This role focuses on the basic science of stem cells, cardiovascular diseases, and drug discovery. The project builds on recent initiatives within the Stanford University Cardiovascular Institute, aiming to generate large numbers of human iPSCs for disease modeling and drug screening.

The LSRP will schedule and implement the differentiation of human iPSC lines into cardiomyocytes, sustaining a cardiomyocyte pipeline for drug discovery studies. The applications for cell production include primary phenotypic screening, elucidation of novel targets, and physiological assays for evaluating cardiotoxicity. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in cell culture and quantitative skills, along with a desire to participate in disease modeling and therapeutic target discovery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan approach to experiments in support of research projects based on scientific theory.
  • Independently conduct experiments; maintain detailed records of experiments and outcomes.
  • Apply theories and methods of life science to interpret and analyze experiment results.
  • Review literature to remain current with new procedures and apply learnings to research.
  • Contribute to publication of findings and participate in the preparation of documents.
  • Assist with general lab maintenance and manage chemical inventory and safety records.
  • Help orient and train new staff or students on lab procedures or techniques.

Eligibility Criteria

The ideal candidate should possess a Bachelor of Science in molecular biology or a related discipline, with excellent organization and record-keeping skills. Experience in human cell culture techniques and an understanding of biological safety regulations is essential. Strong communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team are also required.
