Life Science Research Jobs: Job Description

The Division of Medical Physics in the Department of Radiation Oncology is seeking a Life Science Research Professional (LSRP) 1 to perform basic functions and activities in research studies for the lab of Dr. Ruijiang Li. This role is part of Stanford’s commitment to Life Science Research Jobs, where the LSRP will design and plan experiments for training advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) models for precision oncology. The LSRP will work under the direction and supervision of their faculty. The initial term will be one year.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan approach to experiments in support of research projects in lab and/or field based on knowledge of scientific theory, contributing to Life Science Research Jobs.
  • Independently conduct experiments; maintain detailed records of experiments and outcomes.
  • Apply the theories and methods of a life science discipline to interpret and perform analyses of experiment results; offer suggestions regarding modifications to procedures and protocols in collaboration with senior researcher.
  • Review literature on an ongoing basis to remain current with new procedures and apply learnings to related research.
  • Contribute to publication of findings as needed. Participate in the preparation of written documents, including procedures, presentations, and proposals.
  • Help with general lab maintenance as needed; maintain lab stock, manage chemical inventory and safety records, and provide general lab support as needed.
  • Assist with orientation and training of new staff or students on lab procedures or techniques.

Eligibility Criteria Required For Life Science Research Jobs

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a life sciences field (Biology, Molecular/Cell Biology, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or related discipline).
  • 1-2 years of research experience in oncology, tumor biology, or the tumor microenvironment.
  • Practical experience with spatial biology techniques (e.g., multiplexed imaging platforms, Visium/Xenium, IHC/IF) or a strong willingness to learn.
  • Familiarity with image analysis and/or single-cell/spatial data analysis workflows.
  • Working knowledge of, or strong interest in, applying AI/ML methods to biological problems — exposure to foundation models, LLM-based agents, or “AI co-scientist” tools is a plus.
  • Comfort with basic scripting/data analysis (Python or R) for processing experimental and imaging data.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to synthesize literature and experimental results into clear summaries.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally with computational/ML scientists, wet-lab researchers, and clinical collaborators.
