Microbiology Technician Job Description
The In-Vitro Assay/Microbiology Technician will provide technical support for performing standard and complex in-vitro assays, including PCR, ELISA, and cell-based assays, as well as processing blood and other specimens. The role operates Monday through Friday, with occasional overtime required.
Microbiology Technician – Key Responsibilities
- Conduct assays on samples from in vivo studies and human clinical samples.
- Work with hazardous biological and toxic materials in BSL-2 and BSL-3 environments.
- Contribute to the development and validation of biological assays and laboratory equipment.
- Train and guide less experienced staff and serve as a technical co-lead.
- Maintain mammalian, viral, and bacterial cell cultures.
- Prepare reagents and perform necessary dilutions.
- Use electronic databases for sample tracking and data manipulation.
- Adhere to laboratory safety requirements and facility guidelines.
Eligibility Criteria Required For Microbiology Technician
- Associate’s degree in microbiology, molecular biology, or a related field plus 1 year of relevant experience.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to obtain and maintain necessary certifications and approvals.
- Willingness to work in biocontainment environments and wear appropriate respiratory protection.
- Must be a U.S. citizen and able to pass a background investigation.
Required Skills
- Experience with in-vitro assays such as ELISA and PCR.
- Knowledge of laboratory safety protocols.
- Ability to manage laboratory supplies and perform waste management.
- Familiarity with electronic data management systems.
- Capability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends as needed.
Compensation Data
The salary range for this position is $22.00 – $24.00 per hour, along with a comprehensive benefits package. Salary will be determined based on various factors, including education, relevant experience, and geographic location.
