The Role:

Moderna’s Medical Affairs Department is seeking a summer intern within Respiratory Vaccines. This is an exciting opportunity for a self-driven and ambitious candidate to work with a group of professionals engaged in medical affairs strategy development for respiratory vaccines. The respiratory vaccines program includes both licensed and pipeline vaccines, providing an opportunity to gain a broad understanding of scientific strategy development for vaccine programs.

Our program offers two start dates: Monday, May 16 and Monday, June 6. All applicants must be available for a minimum of 10 weeks to participate in the program.

During the internship period, the candidate will play a key role in the following activities: scientific literature search and review, development and review of medical education materials, participation in key scientific input meetings with subject area scientific leaders, congress planning and participation; participation in cross functional team activities relevant to respiratory vaccines. Under the guidance of the medical affairs team, the candidate will also develop and complete a project over the course of the internship chosen by the intern, such as a literature review on a topic of interest, that aligns with our medical affairs strategy

Self-study materials will be provided for understanding of the therapeutic area during orientation. Knowledge of Microsoft office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) is required. This position would best suit someone with a background and interest in biomedical sciences, vaccinology, microbiology, biology, epidemiology, public health, and/or immunology.

Here’s What You’ll Do:

  • Scientific literature search and review with development of document summarizing information gathered and implications to Moderna’s overall medical affairs strategy
  • Organization of literature repository into a user-friendly format, relaying regular updates to regional teams
  • Work closely with integrated evidence team lead to understand data generation, integration, and dissemination, providing regular updates to regional teams
  • Development and review of medical education materials used at congresses and in association with vendors to relay the science to healthcare professionals
  • Participation in key scientific input meetings with subject matter experts and provide executive summary of insights that impact Moderna’s medical affairs strategy with next steps needed to act on those insights
  • Congress planning and participation, providing summary on key sessions assigned to intern for participation
  • Participation in cross functional team activities relevant to respiratory vaccines
  • Develop and complete a project, such as a literature review, over the course of the internship that aligns with medical affairs strategy and is of interest to intern
  • Multiple opportunities to meet 1:1 with internal stakeholders to learn about industry and its role in overall global health.

Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences or related field
  • Experience publishing professional or educational documentation on the web, using a content-management platform such as SharePoint
  • Experience searching and interpreting peer-reviewed scientific literature in support of research projects, the ability to categorize information resources according to therapeutic area and phases of research
  • Basic understanding of the biomedical sciences, biology, epidemiology, and immunology
  • Must possess excellent organization skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group, executives, managers, and subject matter experts
  • Willingness to learn, be mentored, and improve
  • Ability to work independently and in collaborative team environments
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced demanding environment
  • Ability to prioritize based on shifting demands
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize, multitask, know when to ask for help
