Description:
The non-clinical drug safety department is seeking a talented and self-motivated intern to join our Integrative Toxicology group located at our Ridgefield, Connecticut facility. The successful candidate will contribute to building preclinical biomarker excellence and develop new skills and techniques related to immune cell activation biomarker identification.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Develop experimental plans/protocols with guidance and execute experiments with minimal supervision.
- Develop and optimize novel human and non-human primate in vitro and ex vivo assays to assess immune function.
- Design and perform immune cell isolations and functional assays, cytokine ELISA, RNA isolation and sequencing.
- Work in a highly collaborative manner in a multidisciplinary team in a matrix environment.
- Write protocols, methods, and provide scientific interpretation of results with guidance.
- Present data at the end of the internship in a poster or an oral presentation in the department meeting.
Requirements:
- Must be a current undergraduate, graduate, or advanced degree student in good academic standing within molecular biology, immunology, cell biology, biochemistry, or related field.
- Must be enrolled at a college or university for the duration of the internship.
- Overall cumulative minimum GPA from the last completed quarter/semester 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) preferred.
- Major or minor in the related field of the internship.
- Undergraduate students must have completed at least 12 credit hours at the current college or university.
- Graduate and Advanced Degree students must have completed at least 9 credit hours at the current college or university.
Desired Experience, Skills, and Abilities:
- Must have a good understanding of basic scientific principles and research practices in the field of immunology and molecular biology.
- Familiarity with RNA isolation techniques, RT-PCR, immunoassay technologies (e.g., ELISA, cytokine assays), and/or RNA-sequencing using Illumina platform is a plus.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills; highly organized and efficient record-keeping.
- Strong ability to multitask and willingness to work effectively in a highly collaborative and diverse environment.
