The Opportunity
This role is based at the Australian National Insect Collection (ANIC) within CSIRO’s National Research Collections Australia (NRCA). The successful candidate will collaborate with researchers, taxonomists, molecular systematists, bioinformaticians, lab technicians, and external partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to multi-disciplinary project teams
- Communicate ideas, results, and issues effectively
- Document all steps and maintain lab operations
- Train and mentor less experienced users
- Optimize protocols and troubleshoot workflows
- Operate complex equipment
- Perform DNA extractions, generate barcodes, and build libraries
- Handle confidential projects
- Manage lab consumables and orders
Requirements
Essential:
- Relevant bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
- Practical expertise in molecular genomics
- Experience with laboratory protocols
- Ability to operate advanced technical equipment
- History of successful teamwork and independent work
Desirable:
- Experience with historical DNA lab work
- Proficiency in lab automation and Oxford Nanopore technology
- Knowledge of LIMS/ELN and bioinformatics
- Skills in lab maintenance and upkeep
Location: Canberra, ACT
Salary: AU$93,267 – AU$105,517 plus up to 15.4% superannuation
Tenure: Indefinite
