Molecular Research Technician Jobs: Job Description

The Molecular Research Technician will play a vital role in the daily operations of the Viral Vector and Gene Editing Core Facility. This position involves contributing to both service and research activities, including molecular cloning and viral vector production, which are essential components of the facility’s mission. Candidates will be engaged in hands-on laboratory work that supports the advancement of life science research jobs in Florida.

Key Responsibilities

  • Routinely perform molecular cloning and DNA manipulation, including restriction digestion, ligation, PCR-based cloning, Gibson Assembly, and site-directed mutagenesis.
  • Assist in the design and production of viral vectors, including adeno-associated vectors (AAVs) and lentiviral vectors.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records, inventories, and databases related to constructs, reagents, and viral stocks.
  • Coordinate ordering and inventory management for laboratory supplies and reagents.
  • Support general Core operations, including preparation of service materials and quality control of viral vectors.
  • Contribute to research projects utilizing CRISPR/Cas9-based gene editing technologies.
  • Assist in training students and new personnel in standard molecular biology techniques.
  • Work collaboratively with the Principal Investigator to optimize service delivery.

Molecular Research Technician Jobs: Eligibility Criteria

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S. or B.A.) in molecular biology, biotechnology, biochemistry, or a related life science field.
  • At least two years of hands-on experience with standard molecular biology techniques and proficiency in cloning techniques.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications
