Analytical Lab Intern
Neogen’s Analytical Laboratory has an internship available for a qualified candidate to work closely with scientists in the analytical laboratory. The intern must be a junior or senior pursuing a B.S. degree in Chemistry, Biology or a closely related field with laboratory experience. Once training on standard operating procedures for sample preparation and data collection using analytical methods is completed, the intern would help prepare and analyze various types of samples using high pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC) coupled with ultraviolet (UV), fluorescence (FL) or mass spectrometer (MS) detection. Sample preparation includes solvent extraction and immunoaffinity or solid phase extraction column cleanup. The intern will also be responsible for accurate record keeping and tracking of samples through the process. Sample extracts may contain mycotoxins that are quantitated using the instrumentation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Enter sample information into a database.
- Perform sample extraction and column cleanup prior to analytical data collection.
- Collect data on prepared samples using HPLC/UV/FLD and UPLC/MS/MS.
- Assist in data analysis and data entry.
- Adhere to Neogen guidelines in daily activities.
- Provide support for other departmental projects as directed by the Supervisor.
Education and/or Experience: Must be a junior or senior pursuing a B.S. degree in Chemistry, Biology or a closely related field.
