Position Details:
The goal of our young laboratory at WSU Pullman is to advance our knowledge of gene regulatory programs on the level of transcription initiation. These insights are instrumental to better interpret the human and other genomes and decipher the mechanisms underlying evolution, health, and disease.
A limiting factor in understanding gene regulation is insufficient knowledge of how regulatory information is encoded. Based on our methodological advances that allow to capture nascent transcripts and their start sites in any species or sample where RNA can be isolated, we can now reveal the key DNA motifs, transcription factors and regulatory networks mediating eukaryotic gene expression by studying regulatory elements functionally defined by transcription across evolution. Projects are available in the areas of decoding human dispersed transcription initiation, probing the evolution of eukaryotic transcription mechanisms and using the momentary transcriptional state of immune cells to predict (unintervened) disease progression and outcome.
A successful candidate for this Postdoctoral Research Associate position thrives towards independence, will take ownership, has board interest in the field of gene regulation and is driven by curiosity. PhD students in their last year are encouraged to apply. Both nascent transcriptomics approaches and bioinformatics will help you drive discovery with the option for a heavily bioinformatic focus. Plenty of exciting data and preliminary results are available to jumpstart your research which should eventually turn into your own project if you chose to transition to independence. Candidates are expected to be passionate about mentoring, highly motivated, kind and collaborative to reflect the atmosphere with the lab and at WSU Pullman.
Summary of Duties:
-Performing next generation sequencing data analysis and/or assays.
-Presenting the research through oral presentation and publication.
-Designing and carrying out experiments in the lab.
-Demonstrate commitment to promoting diversity in the workplace.
