Overview of Role
Alvotech is seeking a Principal Scientist to lead the development and scale-up of biosimilar medicines as part of our innovative team. In this pivotal role, you will oversee pilot experiments and full-scale batches, contributing to process design for both upstream (USP) and downstream (DSP) biologics production. Your leadership will drive improvements in manufacturing efficiency, cost reduction, and product quality, while advancing technologies that enhance sustainability and reduce environmental impact. This is an opportunity to apply your deep expertise in biologics and data analysis to shape the future of biosimilar manufacturing.
Scope and Responsibilities
- Lead Pilot experiments and batch production with precision, ensuring that development activities stay ahead of schedule and on track.
- Serve as the expert on upstream and downstream processing (USP/DSP) techniques and tools like DeltaV, Unicorn, or similar programs, guiding and mentoring a team of scientists.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Engineering, Automation, Quality Assurance, and Analytics, to troubleshoot and resolve technical challenges.
- Contribute to the development of sustainable, environmentally friendly drug production processes.
- Ensure accurate and complete data capture in accordance with Good Documentation Practices (GDP).
- Maintain an efficient, organized, and productive laboratory environment.
Job Requirements
- Degree or Master’s in Life Science, Biotechnology, Pharmacy, or a related discipline, or relevant experience in a similar scientific field.
- 5+ years of experience in biotechnology or biopharmaceuticals.
- Proven ability to comprehend technical information and translate it into actionable tasks.
- Positive and proactive mindset, adaptable to intense and changing environments.
- Strong leadership and mentoring skills.
- Excellent problem-solving capabilities, especially in complex technical environments.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills to work seamlessly with cross-functional teams.
