Job Position: Water Quality Analyst Level 3 – Phycology Team

Location: West Ryde, NSW 2114

About the Role:

Reporting to the Laboratory Manager, the Water Quality Analyst Level 3 will be responsible for performing routine and non-routine analyses of freshwater and marine samples. The primary responsibilities include:

  • Conducting biological analysis of water and wastewater products
  • Using a range of equipment in accordance with procedures to meet quality, customer time expectations, and regulatory and operational requirements
  • Completing laboratory analysis of samples, data entry, quality control checks, and calibrations
  • Learning and implementing new tasks, methods, instruments, and equipment as necessary
  • Ensuring tasks are completed on time, meeting expected quality standards, and at the expected cost
  • Working collaboratively with team members to meet customer requirements and improve operational efficiency
  • Demonstrating understanding of the quality system and relevant quality requirements
  • Identifying and reporting potential opportunities to optimize assets, equipment, systems, and processes
  • Undertaking problem-solving and troubleshooting within the laboratory and assisting team members with problem resolution
  • Carrying out internal audits or participating as auditee as required
  • Demonstrating knowledge of compliance with NATA accreditation requirements
  • Promoting and maintaining a safe work environment, conducting risk assessments, and reporting hazards and incidents

About You:

The ideal candidate for this laboratory-based role should possess the following qualifications and skills:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification (Degree and/or Certificate in Biology) or several years of demonstrated experience in a related science discipline
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team to achieve business goals
  • Prior experience in routine laboratory work, particularly in microscopy
  • Demonstrated knowledge of quality assurance systems, including NATA accreditation and ISO 9000 and ISO 17025 quality requirements
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to liaise effectively and write clear and concise reports using software packages such as Word and Excel
  • Physical fitness to carry out prolonged microscopic analysis

Preferred:

  • Previous experience in microscopy, spectrophotometry, and PCR techniques
  • Experience in algal identification
