Job Summary
We are looking for a Sr. Laboratory Technician II to join our Process R&D Probiotics, Cultures, Food Protection Team. The selected candidate will provide critical support for process development at the Madison and Rochester sites, focusing on troubleshooting, improvements, process transfers, and ownership of manufacturing data. The role will involve a combination of routine laboratory tasks and innovative development work to enhance product strains, scale-up processes, and optimize performance and cost-efficiency.
Essential Functions
- Perform routine laboratory tasks and experimental work as directed.
- Support development of cost-effective manufacturing conditions impacting cell yield and quality.
- Update and maintain data sets and laboratory batch tickets.
- Conduct statistical analyses on culture performance and communicate trends.
- Investigate and address product deviations.
- Coordinate pilot-scale manufacturing and oversee product trials.
- Support transfer of products between sites and from R&D to production.
- Document results and communicate findings to the team.
- Flexibility to provide occasional off-hour coverage.
AÂ successful candidate will possess the following:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in microbiology, bioprocess, biotechnology, biochemistry, chemical/process engineering, or related degree with industry experience.
- Fundamental understanding of lactic acid bacteria physiology, freeze-drying technology, and microbial fermentations, as well as process equipment functioning (preferred)
- Strong communication (verbal and written), and organizational and interpersonal skills.
- A working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Ability to independently design, ambitiously carry-out, and report the results of scientific experiments.
- Familiarity with project management techniques, and Six Sigma Greenbelt tools, and data management/statistical software.
