Position Overview

As an Associate Regulatory & Scientific Affairs Specialist at Nestlé USA, based in Arlington, VA, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that our products meet all regulatory requirements. Your responsibilities will include developing and applying knowledge in regulatory compliance assessments and label development within the Nestlé portfolio. You will engage with internal stakeholders to support Nestlé USA’s regulatory agenda, driving the company’s competitive advantage to meet organizational goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to low complexity innovation, renovation, and harmonization projects, such as new flag removals and ingredient replacements.

  • Ensure compliance by designing labels and other product communications through daily routines, including data entry, validation, and claim substantiation.

  • Apply mandatory labeling elements, including ingredient statements, allergen declarations, nutrition facts panels, net weight statements, and substantiated claims, to meet government requirements and standards of identity.

  • Create and maintain documents and records needed by the Regulatory team to support compliance, such as e-labels and nutrition labeling values.

  • Review and approve materials to support ingredient onboarding.

  • Complete documentation for USDA product submissions and generic approvals as applicable.

  • Understand the business environment and basic market consumer trends within the context of Regulatory and Scientific Affairs.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners, including commercial marketing, legal, nutrition health and wellness, and product development.

  • Contribute to the foundation of the Regulatory team by maintaining compliance tools, updating policies and procedures, and striving for continuous improvement to enable products to reach the market quickly.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.

  • 1-2+ years of experience in the food industry, primarily in regulatory affairs, regulatory compliance, food labeling, nutrition, or product development.

  • Strong organizational and analytical skills, with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with influencing and negotiation abilities.

  • Basic knowledge of FDA/USDA food labeling regulations and documentation requirements.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and independently.
