Research Assistant Job Description
Under general supervision of the principal investigator, the Research Assistant II will conduct a variety of routine and specialized laboratory tests using molecular, cell biology, and/or biochemistry techniques. This Research Assistant Job requires performing lab procedures with speed, precision, and a thorough understanding of the theory behind tests and procedures.
Eligibility Criteria
Eligibility criteria for Research Assistant Job include:
- Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences or related scientific field required.
- 1-3 years related work experience required, including 1 year of related experience or a Master’s degree with requisite knowledge and skills.
- Experience with computer systems required, including web-based applications and some Microsoft Office applications.

Research Assistant Job – Key Responsibilities
- Performs routine and non-routine laboratory tests which may include DNA sequencing, gene cloning, in situ hybridization, immunohistochemistry, and northern blotting; synthesizes and interprets results.
- May operate and maintain moderate to complex lab equipment such as spectrophotometers and flow cytometers.
- Utilizes analytical abilities to make decisions regarding the reliability and accuracy of results, repeating procedures when necessary.
- Assists with planning specific research procedures and coordinating schedules of tests and procedures.
- Prepares written and/or verbal reports on the status of research and the technical procedures used, including statistical and graphic summaries of findings.
- Demonstrates routine to complex lab techniques to others in the lab.
- Attends Medical Center lectures regarding safety requirements and conditions; consults with other researchers to exchange information.
