Research Scientist Virology Job Description
In this Research Scientist 1 Virology role, the selected candidate will be involved in all aspects of infectious disease serology specimen processing including arbovirus and tick-borne pathogen testing. Responsibilities will include managing specimen entry into the laboratory information management system (CLIMS), performing standard serology assays, and assisting in the development and optimization of in-house serology and molecular assays for infectious agents.
Eligibility Criteria
- Minimum Qualifications: Non-Competitive: bachelor’s degree in Natural Sciences and two years of post-degree professional research experience in an appropriate field.
- Substitutions: A master’s degree in an appropriate field may substitute for one year of experience, and a Ph.D. may substitute for an additional year of experience.
- Preferred Qualifications: Work experience or coursework in clinical laboratory sciences, microbiology, or infectious diseases is preferred.
Research Scientist Virology – Key Responsibilities
- Perform serology testing related to common vaccine-preventable diseases.
- Conduct arbovirus and tick-borne pathogen testing.
- Manage specimen entry into the laboratory information management system (CLIMS).
- Assist in the development and optimization of serology and molecular assays.
- Prepare standard operating procedures and validation packets.
- Supervise new staff as needed.
