We are currently seeking a keen, dynamic, and self-motivated analytical scientist to join the early phase Drug Substance and Product Analysis team. The successful candidate will be tasked with providing support for portfolio progression of early phase projects that includes aspect of analytical method development, contribution to tech transfer, and support for characterisation and stability studies.

This is predominantly lab-based role and involves important aspects of verbal and written communication and requires good organisation as well as a broader scientific knowledge.  Both individual and team working are essential and therefore the role will suit a scientist with good interpersonal skills, abilities in data analytics and self-motivation.

Successful applicants will work within the Medicine Development & Supply Group. Report to the team leader and will be an integral part of a high-performing and ambitious early phase DS&PA team actively engaging across the Discovery & CMC Development organisations to deliver the pipeline.

The Medicine Development & Supply team is committed to the research, development and commercialisation of a highly novel pipeline of biopharmaceutical-based therapies to treat unmet medical needs. Drug substance and Product Analysis (DS&PA) team is part of the Analytical Development team. The Analytical Development team is accountable for all analytical activities associated with the development and control of manufacturing processes for new drug substances and drug products. Team works in close collaboration with other key partners to discover, develop and supply novel best-in-class medicine to patients.

In this role you will

  • Utilise your expertise in protein biochemistry to provide support for portfolio progression of early phase projects.
  • Utilise your knowledge and practical experience in any of the following techniques: SPR for concentration and binding affinity, ELISA, and qPCR for genomic DNA to support early phase development.
  • Provide support for analytical characterisation and stability studies.
  • Support and carry out analytical method development.
  • Contribute to effective to tech transfer.
  • Work as part of a matrix team.

Basic Qualifications & Skills:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • PhD or equivalent experience in life sciences including protein biochemistry, ideally in analytical, physchem or biophysics field working with biotherapeutics.
  • Practical experience, including troubleshooting/method development, in any of the following techniques: SPR for concentration and binding affinity, ELISA, and qPCR for genomic DNA.
  • Experience working as part of a team/matrix environments within the Biopharmaceutical/Biotech industry.
  • General understanding of antibody/protein structure including Fc biology and/or characterisation of host cell proteins (HCPs).
  • Good attention to detail in experimental setup; good organisational and prioritisation skills
  • Ability to independently collate, analyse, interpret and draw conclusions from data.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to review and assimilate new information effectively.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills:

Please note the following skills are not necessary, just preferred, if you do not have them, please still apply:

  • Knowledge and understanding of critical quality attributes (CQA) and developing automated solutions are desirable.
  • Good understanding of ICH guidelines for analytical method development, analytical method qualification and validation and good knowledge of CMC-relevant liabilities of Biopharmaceutical molecules.
  • Practical experience of Western blot experience, 2D DIGE, Octet – BLI, Bioassay experience
  • Experience in liquid handling automation systems
  • Quick adaptability in new scientific areas
  • Basic understanding of cell culture processes, the unit manufacturing operations
