Description: 

Boehringer Ingelheim is currently seeking a talented and innovative Intern to join our Cardio-Metabolic Diseases Research department located at our Ridgefield, CT facility. As an Intern, you will contribute to understanding the mechanisms of non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). You will support projects focusing on identifying and studying drivers of liver fibrosis in the context of NASH. You will develop and/or run in vitro assays to evaluate profibrotic activation of hepatic stellate cells treated with different stimuli and inhibitors.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Work in a collaborative research environment
  • Understand how studies support project goals
  • Conduct experiments according to protocols and deliver timely data
  • Perform data analyses and formulate hypotheses to guide future experimentation
  • Develop assays using in vitro cultured hepatic stellate cells or fibroblasts; analyze cellular response using cell and molecular biology approaches
  • Clearly communicate progress and findings to the team

Requirements:

  • Must be an Undergraduate, Graduate, or Professional Student in good academic standing.
  • Must have completed 12 credit hours within a related major and/or other related coursework.
  • Overall, cumulative GPA (from last completed quarter) must be at least 3.000 (on 4.0 scale) or better (No rounding up).
  • Major must be related to the field of internship– Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry Engineering, Bio Engineering, Microbiology

Desired Experience, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience in cell culture as well as cell and molecular biology techniques
  • Good knowledge of biology and molecular basis of pathology
  • Basic knowledge of data analysis (e.g. spreadsheets)
  • Experience in conducting small research projects
  • Understanding of fibrosis pathogenesis is a plus

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
