Human Food Safety – Residue Chemistry Intern

Internship Summary:
The summer intern will obtain first-hand experience in the design and conduct of residue studies with a focus on analysis of drug and metabolites from biological matrices. The intern will be trained to conduct small molecule concentration analysis in livestock tissues using modern chromatography/mass spectrometry techniques and equipment. The intern will be part of the Global Metabolism and Safety Department and will be primarily assigned within the Residues group although interactions with other groups will likely occur.
Internship Job Duties:
- Assist laboratory personnel with preparation of laboratory reagents.
- Assist laboratory personnel with assay method development of small molecules in biological matrices.
- Assist laboratory personnel with the conduct of residue studies, specifically analysis of small molecules in tissues.
- Assist in preparing experiment summaries and data tables for study reporting.
Internship Qualifications:
- BS, MS, or PhD Student in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related scientific field. MS or PhD student is desired.
- Experience in a chemistry laboratory.
- Knowledge of good laboratory techniques including weighing and pipetting.
- Familiarity with chromatographic separations, in vitro test systems, and mass spectrometry is desired but not required.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word).
