Location: Princeton, New Jersey; New Brunswick, New Jersey; Summit, New Jersey

Categories: Intern/Co-op/Student/Flex

Req ID: R1536508

Position Type: Full Time

Job Description:

Nonclinical Research & Development (NCR&D) at Bristol Myers Squibb is seeking highly motivated undergraduate students interested in a summer internship program that offers scientific research in a team‐orientated and fast‐paced environment. Students will be assigned an exciting project that provides a basis for learning new technologies, developing methods to address toxicologically-relevant concerns or current novel needs in bioanalytical evaluation, and/or analyzing literature/data to facilitate the generation of science-driven decisions for specific development programs. This year, four projects are offered in the specialized laboratories and disciplines of immuno- and molecular toxicology, investigative toxicology, and nonclinical disposition and bioanalysis. Related and fully virtual internship projects will be available in these areas if in-person learning opportunities are limited this summer due to the current COVID-19 pandemic.

In addition, students will be mentored in the development of critical thinking, risk/benefit assessment, multi‐tasking capabilities, scientific writing and presentation skills, and building collaborative relationships. During the 10‐week internship, students will have opportunities to meet with numerous NCR&D team members from multiple departments including nonclinical safety, pharmaceutical candidate optimization, veterinary sciences, and toxicology speciality departments, as well as members of BMS cross‐functional groups (e.g., Discovery, Pharmaceutical Development), to explore the various roles and responsibilities that are integrated to bring pharmaceuticals through development.

BMS provides a competitive salary. In addition (and dependent on whether in-person learning opportunities are available due to the current pandemic), chosen candidates located more than 50 miles from the project-specified central New Jersey area location will receive a stipend to cover commuting and housing costs.

For consideration, please submit an application by Friday, March 5, 2021.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Directly contribute to an assigned project which is aligned with BMS NCR&D responsibilities and student experiences/goals.
  • Responsibilities will vary with assigned project, but will potentially include: laboratory work, literature/data review, and/or computational analyses
  • Present work to the larger NCR&D group at the conclusion of the internship

Key Requirements:

  • Undergraduate student, enrolled in an academic program for the Fall of 2021, with demonstrated interest and effort within biological sciences with emphasis on toxicology (preferred)
  • Undergraduate student with interest in pursuing a career or academic interests in the biological sciences
  • Availability for full-time employment (40 hrs/week) throughout the internship period (June 7 – August 13, 2021)

Majors:

Biology, toxicology, immunology, biomedical engineering, and related disciplines
