Microbiology Job Description
Microbiology job responsibilities in this role focus on performing microbiological tests that support the release of intermediates and finished products. The Microbiology Analyst is responsible for performing routine and non-routine microbiological testing on in-process and final container products, as well as environmental monitoring samples. The position also contributes to the completion of regular technical laboratory tasks that support quality assurance and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Microbiology job duties include laboratory testing, environmental monitoring, documentation, and regulatory compliance activities.
- Maintain inventory and report supply requirements.
- Perform microbiological testing of raw materials, in-process products, and environmental monitoring (EM) samples.
- Complete gown qualification and work in aseptic manufacturing areas.
- Conduct viable and non-viable environmental monitoring activities.
- Maintain sample logs and ensure timely testing.
- Collect and test critical utility samples, including Water-for-Injection, Purified Water, and compressed air systems.
- Perform CFU counting, sterility testing, Growth Promotion, and Biological Indicator testing.
- Prepare reagents, materials, and equipment for microbiological testing.
- Maintain accurate records, calibration logs, and enter results into LIMS.
- Support laboratory investigations, equipment maintenance, and calibration activities.
- Assist with method validation, troubleshooting, audits, and vendor certification programs.
- Conduct statistical evaluations and support QC staff training.
- Ensure compliance with cGMP requirements, laboratory documentation standards, and equipment calibration procedures.
Qualifications
Microbiology job applicants should meet the following educational requirements.
Education
- Minimum BS in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biology, or equivalent.
- Microbiology degree preferred.
Experience
- 1–3 years of experience in a cGMP/GLP laboratory.
- Pharmaceutical and FDA/GMP industry experience preferred.
- Microbiology laboratory experience, including aseptic techniques, required.
