Key Responsibilities
Lab assistant job duties include:
- Assist laboratory staff with pre-sample analysis of blood specimens.
- Set up of Microbiological specimens.
- Prepare and use equipment as directed by appropriate scientific/technical laboratory staff.
- Receive and record specimens on LIS, ensuring that samples and request forms are correctly matched.
- File and store samples as required and maintain records.
- Scanning, archiving and retrieval of documents.
- Dispatch and delivery of specimens to referral laboratories as required.
- Management of laboratory waste.
- Cleaning of laboratory and laboratory equipment as required.
- Stock management, reporting stock shortages to senior laboratory staff and requesting stocks as appropriate.
- Assisting with filing of specimens, slides, etc.
- Taking, recording and delivering phone messages as required.
- Recording of data on the laboratory/hospital computer system to include patient data entry and production of bar-coded labels.
- Completion of daily check lists.
- Other appropriate duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Hospital.
