UC Research Associate Job Description
The UC Research Associate will support UC San Diego’s stem cell and cardiac research, focusing on hESCs, hiPSCs, and cardiomyocyte differentiation. Responsibilities include tissue culture, CRISPR gene editing, RT-PCR, DNA/RNA purification, FACS, immunohistochemistry, microscopy, and image analysis. The role also involves maintaining lab equipment and records, managing supplies, preparing protocols, organizing data, and assisting researchers with experiments and troubleshooting.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum qualifications required for UC Research Associate job include:
- Bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Experience with hESC/iPSC culture, maintenance, and cardiomyocyte differentiation.
- Knowledge of FACS, flow cytometry, CRISPR gene editing, and live-cell imaging.
- Familiarity with laboratory equipment, biohazard handling, and proper waste disposal.
- Experience with imaging/analysis tools such as ImageJ, Photoshop, Halo, or Nikon software.
- Strong laboratory record-keeping, computer, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Special Conditions
- Willingness to work with human stem cells, hazardous chemicals, and biological materials.
- Flexibility to work occasional evenings, weekends, or different locations as required.
- Employment may require a background check and pre-employment physical.

Annual Full Pay Range: $68,466 – $110,142 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $32.79 – $52.75
