Job Purpose

This position supports IRRI’s mission to transform rice production in Thailand through climate-smart technologies and policy advocacy. The economist will assess socio-economic barriers to the adoption of sustainable practices, perform economic analysis, and engage public and private stakeholders to promote inclusive, low-emission rice systems.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Lead baseline and endline assessments, socio-economic analysis, and adoption studies

  • Support feasibility studies, pilot testing of climate-smart technologies, and business model development

  • Collaborate with MOAC, national, and international stakeholders

  • Produce peer-reviewed publications, reports, and policy briefs

  • Contribute to proposal development, partner training, and policy dialogues

Qualifications

  • Master’s in Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness, Economics, Applied Economics, or Development Economics with 3+ years of relevant experience
    OR

  • Ph.D. in the same field with 1+ years of relevant experience

Skills Required

Mandatory:

  • Has demonstrated research experience and analytical skills, particularly in economic analysis on the impact of agricultural policies
  • Strong analytical skills to assess data and draw actionable insights
  • Excellent oral and written skills in English, including scientific writing,g as well as interpersonal skills
  • A proactive and independent way of working

Preferred:

  • Proficiency in both quantitative and qualitative evaluation methods, including designing surveys, conducting interviews, and analyzing data
  • Experience in collaborating with diverse stakeholders, interacting with public, private, and civil society stakeholders.
  • Proven evidence of delivering analytical work on critical issues of relevance for sustainable agricultural systems, such as: smallholder agriculture, agri/water productivity, agrifood value chains, behavioral economics, risk management, agriculture insurances, etc.
  • Knowledge of the agri-food value chain approach/processes
