Job Title: Formulation R&D Scientist I

Your success will be driven by your demonstration of our LIFE values. More specifically related to this position, Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with at least five years of relevant experience or Master’s degree with at least two years of relevant experience or Ph.D. with at least one year of relevant experience, the degree in relevant Scientific Discipline, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Physical Chemistry or Engineering;
  • Knowledge in formulation chemistry of enzymes, proteins or similar;
  • Knowledge in physical chemistry methodology;
  • Expertise in formulations of microbial-based biological formulations, specifically enzymes, proteins or similar and in bioprocessing of biological materials;
  • Experience with physical and chemical laboratory testing techniques such as particle size analyzer, dispersion, wetting, rheology, and biological testing;
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision and as a member of a multidisciplinary research team
  • Ability to solve complex problems through original thinking and application of scientific principles;
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills and flexibility to work in a team environment;
  • Excellent organization and planning skills;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Able to constructively coordinate work with other functions;
  • Ability to work well in a shared laboratory setting, be able to communicate research needs to others, and be willing to assist other projects (often on a tight timeline).

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in product formulations and in bioprocessing of biological materials.

The primary responsibilities of this role, Formulation Research, and Development Scientist I, are to:

  • Develop microbial-based biological formulations (e.g. enzymes, proteins, chemistries, microbes, etc.) for biologicals relevant for the global market, with a focus on enzymes, proteins, or similar;
  • Develop downstream bioprocessing steps that result in manufacturing-ready processes;
  • Design, plan and conduct design experiments to understand the impact of inert ingredients as well as processing parameters on physicochemical properties, potency, and stability of the biological products;
  • Plan and produce field trial material to support projects both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team;
  • Perform complex measurements on samples including particle size and rheometry measurements;
  • Conduct storage stability testing and provide feedback and conclusions on findings;
    Provide support for commonly used equipment including troubleshooting, calibration, and upscaling;
  • Keep current with scientific literature and industry trends and apply scientific reasoning to design experiments, troubleshoot issues and solve problems;
  • Engage in technical discussions on data interpretation and experimental design to further improve products and improve development processes;
  • Take responsibility for the formulation development of specific projects.
