Biotech Job Description

Biotech job candidates joining Abzena as a Process Development Associate I will perform process development activities in collaboration with cross-functional teams to develop scalable and robust manufacturing processes within accelerated timelines.

The role involves supporting upstream process development, mammalian cell culture operations, bioreactor management, technical transfers, process scale-up activities, data collection, documentation, and laboratory maintenance while ensuring compliance with regulatory and quality standards.

Qualifications

Biochemistry job applicants should have a strong foundation in cell culture, biotechnology, and process development.

Education

  • BS degree in Biological Sciences, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, or a related field.

Experience

  • 1–3 years of experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry preferred.

Technical Skills

  • Knowledge of mammalian cell culture, cell metabolism, protein production, and cell banking processes.
  • Experience with bioreactors, ambr250 systems, and single-use technologies preferred.
  • Familiarity with cell counting, metabolism analysis, analytical methods, and data management.

Professional Skills

  • Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, and documentation abilities.
  • Understanding of cGMP manufacturing and regulatory requirements is desirable.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and safe operation of production equipment.

Biotech Job – Key Responsibilities

Biotech job responsibilities include supporting upstream process development, cell culture operations, and process scale-up activities.

  • Perform mammalian cell culture activities, including thawing, expansion, maintenance, and cell banking.
  • Operate bioreactors (2 L–200 L) and monitor cell growth, metabolism, pH, and gassing.
  • Support technical transfers and process scale-up activities up to cGMP manufacturing scale.
  • Prepare media, buffers, and process-related solutions.
  • Collect, document, and analyze process data while maintaining regulatory-compliant records.
  • Assist with in-process testing, protein production, and production schedule support.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment, inventory, cleanliness, and organization.
  • Assemble and sterilize tubing assemblies and support equipment maintenance.
  • Participate in project meetings, technology evaluations, and cross-functional collaborations.
  • Ensure compliance with cGMP requirements, quality standards, company policies, and safety procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with team members, clients, and stakeholders.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
