- Reports to: Director, R&D
- Travel: 5โ15%
- Status: Exempt
- Base Pay Range: $75,000 โ $90,000 USD.
Job Purpose
The Associate Scientist will apply scientific principles, conduct research experiments, and generate reliable results. Key objectives include resolving technical challenges, developing or improving products, validating test methods, and enhancing efficiency. This role involves learning to apply scientific findings to dairy systems and translating insights into innovative processes and products.
Responsibilities of Food Science Jobs
- Design and conduct benchtop experiments and tests according to research plans
- Scale up trials from benchtop to pilot plant
- Design and execute shelf-life studies, including routine analysis and sensory evaluations
- Stay current with scientific and technical developments
- Analyze and summarize research data
- Present scientific findings to R&D and cross-functional teams
- Prepare concise and accurate reports (written and electronic)
- Operate benchtop and pilot plant equipment
- Follow GMP and safety regulations
- Maintain a safe, clean, and sanitary work area
- Properly handle chemicals, fluids, and compressed gases
- Clean, sterilize, maintain, and calibrate lab equipment
- Provide technical support when needed
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Skills & Qualifications for Food Science Jobs
- BS or MS in Food Science, with a focus on dairy science or relevant dairy experience
- 0โ1 year experience in a lab or pilot plant environment
- Foundational knowledge in food science, formulation, process research, experimental design, or plant trials
- Hands-on experience with laboratory equipment
- Knowledge of QHSE systems and lab best practices
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
- Proficiency with MS Office and database systems
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Willingness to travel overnight and work night/weekend shifts for special projects

- 8+ hours of sitting, standing, or walking
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs
- Exposure to machinery, flammable liquids, biohazards, and similar hazards
