Job Title: LABORATORY INTERN – BIOMARKER MASS SPECTROMETRY

Department Summary

The Translational Medicine department at Genentech informs clinical development of novel personalized therapeutics through the establishment of biomarker strategies aimed to study the molecular pathways driving disease and to characterize the mechanism of action of our therapeutics. We focus on prognostic, predictive, and pharmacodynamic biomarkers to enable our vision of “the right drug for the right patient at the right dose”.

This internship position is located in South San Francisco, CA On-Site.

Key Responsibilities

  • As a member of the biomarker mass spectrometry laboratory, the intern will gain hands-on experience in the field of mass spectrometry and quantitative biomarker assay development while supporting respiratory clinical programs. Specifically, the intern will:
  • Utilize mass spectrometry-based approaches and develop a mass spectrometry method to measure pro enzymes and active enzymes involved in cell death and inflammation in respiratory diseases.
  • Understand how the assessment of these proteins impacts the biomarker strategy for specific clinical programs and how biomarkers are used to support drug development.

Program Highlights

  • Intensive 12-weeks, full time (40 hours per week) paid internship.
  • Program start dates are in May and June 2023.

  • Lead or participate in intern committees to design and coordinate program events and initiatives.

Who You Are

Education (select from the suggested options):

Any Degree Level. Undergraduates who have completed at least one year of undergraduate coursework at a university, current graduate students (MS or PhD) who are available to work full time for the duration of the internship, or recent grads (within 2 years of receiving their last degree).

Preferred majors: Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Analytical Chemistry, Immunology

Other Qualifications

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

  • Familiar with triple quadrupole mass spectrometers and companion analyzing software
  • Experience in developing custom methods for mass spectrometry sample preparation
