Job Title: Intern, Protein Homeostasis Cell Biology (Summer 2023)

Location: Brisbane, California

Qualifications & Experience

  • Candidates must be enrolled in bachelor’s degree program majoring in Biology (e.g. Cell
  • Biology, Molecular Biology), Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biological Engineering, or related discipline
  • Candidates must have completed at least 2 years of study towards a bachelor’s degree by June 2023
  • Candidates should have strong communication skills (written and verbal), and the ability to work in a collaborative environment
  • Candidates should have basic laboratory skills (from lab courses or work in research)
  • Coursework in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology or Biochemistry is highly desirable

Position Summary

The Protein Homeostasis Center of Excellence (PH CoE) aims to advance our industry leading degrader platform to ensure delivery of revolutionary medicines for patients with unmet medical needs. Drawing on the expertise of scientists from multiple disciplines we are responsible for the discovery and early development of the next generation of molecules for targeted protein degradation and beyond.

The PH CoE is highly committed to supporting STEM education and local initiatives that give students from all backgrounds exposure to careers in science. To further this cause, we are thrilled to participate in the 2023 Summer Internship Program. In this 10-week, full time, paid summer program selected interns embedded with the PH Cell Biology team will have the opportunity to contribute to PH programs in early development at BMS.

Students will benefit from state-of-the-art laboratories at our site in Brisbane, CA and gain experience in key skills including the design, execution and analysis of cell biological assays used in our discovery and early development of new targeted protein degradation therapeutics. Interns will participate in departmental and project team meetings to gain valuable experience into the drug discovery process and interact with individuals from across a range of scientific disciplines and leadership roles. This is a great opportunity to gain exposure to diverse areas within the drug discovery and early development process and have a hand in bringing novel therapeutics to patients with unmet medical needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Gain background knowledge of the assigned project by reading scientific literature
  • Work with PH Cell Biology scientists to understand experimental design, execution, and analysis
  • Learn and perform techniques and assays for project completion
  • Meet with scientific mentors on a regular basis to review progress
  • Analyze data and present project findings at the conclusion of the program
