Job Summary

The Research Technologist will perform laboratory procedures and routine assays following established protocols, primarily focused on processing blood samples. The role involves supporting viral immunology experiments, maintaining sample inventories, and ensuring smooth day-to-day laboratory operations.

Key Duties & Responsibilities of a Research Technologist

Laboratory Work

  • Process whole blood into research samples using aseptic techniques.

  • Perform basic blood separation, organization, and archiving of samples.

  • Run laboratory tests and complete required measurements.

  • Identify and troubleshoot common issues in routine assays.

  • Set up experiments according to standard protocols.

Sample & Inventory Management

  • Receive, organize, and archive biological samples.

  • Communicate with internal/external study teams.

  • Maintain inventory and pull aliquots from freezers as needed.

Equipment & Maintenance

  • Prepare, test, operate, and maintain standard lab equipment.

  • Monitor supply inventory and perform routine lab maintenance.

  • Keep equipment and work areas clean and functional.

Training & Skill Development

  • Learn lab techniques using basic science knowledge.

  • Develop problem-solving skills through ongoing training.

  • Train other users on standard equipment and routine procedures.

Minimum Qualifications for Research Jobs at Johns Hopkins University
