Job Description
Azenta Inc. is seeking an Associate Scientist I to join its team in South Plainfield, NJ. This role involves conducting molecular biology experiments, maintaining laboratory records, handling nucleic acid extractions, and supporting sequencing and PCR workflows. The position is full-time, Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and offers on-site training for motivated candidates eager to grow in a fast-paced scientific environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct molecular biology experiments in a regulated laboratory setting.
- Receive and organize samples, supporting storage and documentation.
- Perform nucleic acid extractions from diverse sample types, including cell pellets, viruses, and stool (BSL-2 lab).
- Carry out PCR, qPCR, and dPCR techniques.
- Perform DNA purification and prepare Sanger sequencing reactions.
- Maintain accurate laboratory documentation and records.
- Support troubleshooting and assist team leaders with workflow efficiency.
- Prepare buffers, solutions, and reagents.
- Perform routine laboratory equipment maintenance.
- Maintain lab cleanliness and inventory management.
- Follow SOPs and ensure adherence to safety protocols.
- Collaborate with team members to meet customer turnaround times.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (BS/BA) in Biological Sciences required.
- Minimum 1 year of related laboratory experience.
- Experience in Sanger sequencing preferred.
- Intense multitasking, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Highly motivated, detail-oriented, and customer-focused.
- Commitment to following SOPs and laboratory safety guidelines.
