Job Description

The Microbiologist II plays a key role in ensuring product safety and quality by conducting microbiological testing, developing new methods, and supporting process improvements. This position operates in compliance with cGMP, USP, and FDA standards while advancing Empowerโ€™s mission to provide accessible and affordable medications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct and review microbiological testing of raw materials, finished products, and environmental samples, including microbial enumeration, identification, and antimicrobial effectiveness testing.
  • Conduct laboratory investigations and root cause analyses for out-of-specification results, implementing corrective actions as necessary.
  • Develop and validate microbiological test methods in compliance with regulatory standards, maintaining accurate documentation and technical reports.
  • Ensure adherence to laboratory protocols, safety guidelines, and regulatory requirements (cGMP, GLP, USP).
  • Support microbiology projects, drive process improvements, and contribute to research and development discussions.
  • Maintain active communication and collaboration across teams to enhance efficiency and innovation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Microbiology, Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field (required).
  • Minimum 3 years of microbiology laboratory experience in pharmaceutical or compounding environments.
  • Strong knowledge of microbiological testing, bacterial endotoxin testing, sterility, and microbial limit testing.
  • Proficiency in compendial testing and compliance with USP, FDA, and cGMP regulations.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
