New Age Meats Intern – Cell Substrate Development Recruitment. New Age Meats is a fast-growing Berkeley based cellular agriculture company. We create delicious meat made from animal cell culture instead of animal slaughter – healthier for humans, animals, and the planet. We are excited about bringing the best automation and data science practices into stem cell biology – developing enhanced cell lines, media, and bioreactor scaling – to bring cultivated meat to market faster and more affordably.
Intern – Cell Substrate Development
This position will focus on the cell biology, cell culture and cell substrates that support cell attachment and proliferation.
QUALIFICATIONS: Completed degree (full time position) from a college or a university majoring in biology, biochemistry, bioengineering, or similar.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Experience with mammalian cell culture and aseptic technique is highly desired.
- Working knowledge in biomaterial/microparticle synthesis/fabrication will be preferred.
- Hands-on experience in cGMP, BSL1 and BSL2 labs is highly desired.
- Proven ability to manage multiple assignments/ tasks.
- Experience working with image processing software such as ImageJ or CellSens is desirable.
- Experience with microscopy imaging (brightfield, fluorescence) is ideal.
- Strong communication skills (oral and written) and attention to detail.
- Comfort with a fast-paced start-up environment and remote communication.
- Experience with literature research and design of experiments is desirable.
- Basic to intermediate knowledge of computer skills including Microsoft Office and working with Google Drive is required.
DUTIES INCLUDE:
- Literature review/Working knowledge of cell substrates and microcarriers
- Executing SOPs with guidance from Researchers and Scientists
- Assist with with microcarrier production and evaluation
- Microscopy imaging (brightfield, fluorescence)
- Maintaining mammalian cell lines (feeding, passing, cell counting, etc.) in a BSL2 environment
- Keeping a detailed electronic lab notebook
- Operating with moderate supervision and having meticulous attention to detail
