The University Hospital of Tübingen is seeking a motivated PhD candidate to join a pioneering project in Organoids and Organ-on-Chip technologies. This part-time position (65%) offers a three-year contract, starting as soon as possible, and is based at the Institute of Neuroanatomy and Developmental Biology. The primary objective is to develop an advanced in vitro model of the human retina using organoid and microfluidic chip technologies, with a focus on modeling glaucoma.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Cell Culture: Handling and differentiation of human iPSCs and retinal organoids.

  • Bioengineering: Developing multi-organoid systems, co-culture models, and engineered organoids.

  • Organ-on-Chip Technology: Designing and implementing microfluidic platforms for retinal modeling.

  • Immunocytochemistry: Advanced staining and imaging techniques.

  • Microscopy and Image Analysis: High-resolution imaging and quantitative analysis.

  • RNA-based Analysis Methods: Including RNA sequencing and single-cell RNA sequencing.

  • Flow Cytometry / FACS: Cellular analysis and sorting techniques.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in life sciences, molecular biology, or a related field.

  • Experience in cell culture, particularly with stem cells (e.g., human iPSCs), and proficiency in molecular biology techniques such as qPCR and immunocytochemistry is highly desirable.

  • Excellent proficiency in English is essential.

  • Basic programming skills (e.g., R, Python) and familiarity with scientific software (e.g., ImageJ, Prism) are a plus.
