Quality Assurance Job Summary
Under moderate guidance, the QA Specialist:
- Supports manufacturing operations and ensures regulatory/quality compliance.
- Acts as technical resource for Manufacturing/Engineering in weight control, packaging, troubleshooting, and incident management.
- Performs some laboratory duties.
- Provides QA support to the assigned business unit.
Responsibilitiesย
Compliance
- Support production to meet quality/safety specs and regulatory standards.
- Provide training, auditing, troubleshooting, and incident management.
Training
- Educate and train employees on food quality/safety.
- Conduct follow-ups to ensure understanding of job requirements.
Auditing
- Perform audits per PEP, HACCP, and environmental compliance.
- Review CCP documentation.
Incident Management
- Investigate/analyze quality/safety incidents and identify trends.
- Initiate corrective actions and communicate findings.
- Use systems like SAP, LPR, and CONC for problem-solving.
Sampling / Instrumentation
- Manage all sampling programs (micro, pesticide, Cadbury, Kit Kat, environmental, retained samples).
- Input samples into LIMS and report out-of-tolerance results.
- Prepare dosing sets; maintain essence inventories.
- Support instrumentation calibration and chocolate collaboration programs.
HACCP
- Conduct internal HACCP and PEP audits; document and follow up on non-conformances.
- Conduct monthly sanitation and prerequisite system audits.
Continuous Improvement / Projects
- Implement continuous improvement using PEP elements (SSOPs, HACCP, ACCP, weight control).
- Lead complaint-reduction initiatives and improvement teams.
- Serve as QA representative on cross-functional teams.
- Support new product runs from testing to full production.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills & Abilities for Quality Assurance Job
- Knowledge of federal/state food regulations; understanding of sanitation & pest control.
- Familiarity with GFSI standards.
- Strong computer/document management skills and attention to detail.
- Effective verbal/written communication.
- Ability to work flexible hours; dexterity for testing/recording data.
- Ability to climb ladders/stairs; lift moderately heavy items.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Solid understanding of manufacturing environments.
- Strong auditing and leadership/influencing abilities.
- Proficiency in MS Office, SAP, Net Weight, QA Trends.
- Working knowledge of PEP, HACCP, GMP, and regulatory quality systems.
Minimum Education & Experience
- B.S. or A.S. in Food Science, Microbiology, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- 1โ5 years of related experience.
- HACCP certification (preferred).
- Six Sigma certification (preferred).
Other Requirements
- Must be available for rotational on-call weekend coverage.
